It's the late Christmas gift you never knew you wanted: Akon is embarking on a big comeback with the release of five new albums throughout 2015, each calledStadiumand designed to fill... Well, stadiums.
The prolific producer and former curator of Lady Gaga's rise to fame announced the news on Twitter after months of speculation about new material. Each part covers off a different genre of music from Euro dance through to pop, island, urban and 'world'.
Akon wrote: "Thru out this long wait, there has been fans who stuck with me. This Album is for you! 5 Albums 5 genres equaling STADIUM."
Five songs are available on Akon's official website: one from each of his new LPs, along with album artwork that could only have been done in Microsoft Paint. (Or early '90s Corel Draw.)
"'Better'" comes from his Stadium Euro album.
"'To Each His Own'" comes from Stadium Pop.
'"Whole Lot"' comes from Stadium Urban.
'"Just a Man"' features Damian Marley and comes from the Island album.
"'Feeling a Nikka"' features Banje and comes from the World album.
It's been just over six years since Akon released his last album – 2008'sFreedom– which reached number 7 and 6 on the US and UK charts respectively.
